Why 2025 Was the Right Year to Begin

It was time. 2025 was the year this blog began—but not the year the story began.
For a long time, travel and food lived side by side in my life without needing an audience. Trips were planned, meals were cooked, recommendations were shared the same way they always are: casually, generously, and usually by request. If anything, the writing already existed—it just lived in emails sent to friends, in saved notes on my phone, and in conversations that started with “You’ll love this place.”
Most of what I published in 2025 wasn’t new. It was refined. These were itineraries I’d adjusted over multiple trips, neighborhoods I return to without thinking, restaurants I recommend because I’ve eaten there more than once and would happily go again. The posts didn’t come from chasing trends or ticking boxes—they came from repetition, familiarity, and preference.
Starting the blog changed the way I paid attention. I noticed details I might have glossed over before. I edited instead of over-explaining. I trusted my instincts without adding disclaimers about why someone should listen to me. Writing things down made me more deliberate—not just about where I went, but about why certain places stuck.
There’s something clarifying about putting experience into words. You start to see patterns: the kinds of cities that make you feel at ease, the meals you remember long after the plates are cleared, the neighborhoods that feel like home even when they’re new to you. This year wasn’t about discovery as much as recognition.
I’m also aware of what this year wasn’t. It wasn’t about chasing numbers, building a brand overnight, or promising a perfectly scheduled content calendar. And as a matter of fact, it was also a year when life threw a few curveballs. Even so, I kept showing up here—sometimes quietly, sometimes inconsistently—but always intentionally. This blog mattered to me, even when progress wasn’t obvious.
Looking ahead, 2026 is already taking shape in ways that feel personal rather than packed. There are trips tied to milestones, trips tied to people, and a few that exist purely for the joy of going back—or finally going. I’m looking forward to writing about them as they happen, not before.
2025 felt like a good year to begin—not because it was flashy, but because it was ready.

I’m excited to use you as a resource. My first international trip is Columbia. Any recommendations?

Hi Susan! No Colombia recommendations, sorry! The Girls Travel Facebook group is an excellent source of info. Also, the Solo Women Travel group, even if you are not traveling solo. Just last week, I asked for hotel recommendations in Zurich and ended up booking one of them.
